Nebbiolo d'Alba 2009 is a classy Nebbiolo. Delicious lifted aromatics of liquorice and ripe red fruit on the nose, mingle with sour cherry, blossom and notes of leather on the palate. An extremely elegant wine balanced by vibrant acidity and perfectly poised tannins. The producer of this wine is Poderi Colla - founded in 1993 by uncle and niece, Tino and Frederica Colla. The Colla family truly make wine in the vineyard with a non-interventionist approach to winemaking which means the wines are a unique reflection of site and vintage. The Nebbiolo for this wine come from the 12 hectares of vine in Cascine Drago. The vineyards are 330 - 370 metres above sea level and the vines are between 25 and 40 years old. The grapes are hand picked and put in small baskets for transporting to the winery where they are de-stalked and softly pressed. The grapes are macerated on their skins for 10 days at 30C. The wine is matured in a mix of Slovenian and French oak casks for 8 months.
