Lovely and dry. Louis Guntrum Dry Riesling 2011 is a beautiful, racy and pure Riesling, white flowers bouquet on the nose, medium body, powerful fruit character in the mouth balanced with fresh acidity. Louis Dry Riesling comes exclusively from traditional vineyards in the region of Rheinhessen. These are the steep vineyards along the valley sides of the Rhein, in Nierstein and Oppenheim. This gives a blend of grapes from Niestein’s red slate that have a fragrance and delicacy with those from the chalky loam soils of Oppenheim that give power and structure. The optimal blend for the Riesling grape. Sustainable farming and grape growing combined with limited yields because of minimal pruning, a green harvest of hand selected grapes all lead to the creation of a stunning wine. The wine is fermented at 10 degrees C in stainless steel vats. There is no added sugar, water acidity or other additives of any type. The wine is left on the lees for an extended time to enhance the flavours until early bottling. The fermentation is natural with cultured yeasts only added at the end of fermentation so as to ensure a dry wine. All this care in production is overseen by Louis Konstantin Guntrum, the 11th generation of the family to produce wines here. The family goes back to 1648 in the small village of Worrstadt. It was Louis Jean George Guntrum, the 8th generation who built the current estate buildings in 1923. It is impressive in size and offers great surroundings in which to produce their excellent wines.
