1489 Vino Nobile di Montepulciano is a ripe, full flavoured, red fruited wine with up-front fruit character. On the palate the tannins are smooth, well structured yet elegant resulting in a wine with serious character, bramble fruit and a characteristic savoury, bitter twist on the finish. The producer is Tenute Toscane which is part of the wine family Baroncini who have a number of estates in different parts of Tuscany all overseen by Bruna Baroncini who is part of the fifth generation of the family who now produce authentic classics from 'middle Italy'. The climate is humid in winter and spring and warm and dry in summer. The grapes are gently pressed and fermented at a temperature of 22C for 20 days. They then undergo lengthy maceration on the skins to maximise colour and body. The wine is then aged in oak barrels for 2 years before bottling.
