This 1489 Chianti Reserva is in honour of the date the Baroncini family first started growing grapes at their San Gimignano estate. The wine is deep ruby red in colour with aromas of violets, wild cherries and subtle spice notes. On the palate the wine is full bodied and balanced with soft wild berry characters and a hint of vanilla and cinnamon, coupled with a long finish. Made from 100% Sangiovese, the grapes are harvested when fully ripe and undergo a long maceration on the skins after fermentation. There is then a short time ageing in large Slavonian oak casks. Drinking beautifully now but will continue to improve for a further 2 years. The producer is Tenute Toscane which is part of the Baroncini family business, overseen by Bruna Baroncini who is the latest generation of the family who have been producing wine for over 5 centuries.
