We are extremely proud to offer a small but growing range of Fairtrade wines. Produced in accordance with the International Fairtrade Standards Scheme this range of wines contribute to the development of disadvantaged producers in the world.

The Fairtrade mark is an independent consumer guarantee with the aim of helping producers in developing countries to get a better deal from international trade. This helps to relieve the causes of poverty by tackling injustices of world trade. When you see products carrying the Fairtrade mark you can be guaranteed that:

* Growers will receive a fair price for their produce
* Growers have the security to invest in their farms and create a better future for their families
* Greater respect for the environment
* Smaller farmers will have a stronger position in world markets
* A closer link between the consumer and producers

On The Nose:
This wine is full of life, with a fresh nose that dances through a spiral of aromas, blending hints of angelica, dried flowers, pineapple, coconut, cinnamon, cocoa and tobacco.
In The Mouth:
With a fullness in the mouth, its earthy, smoky, pearly complexity rises to the surface, underscored by the vibrant warmth of peppery spice. The sensation of intensity develops and melts into a deep, rounded heart, with a fruity, exotic maturity and a slight touch of aniseed. This sensation, almost unsettling, is even more pronounced in the finish, while the notes of spice, still present, remain discreet, with toasted, iodine flavors.

"I was fortunate to have the newly released 1999 Dom Pérignon, which is a spectacular Champagne. Based on one bottle, I would not rate it as highly as the 1996 or 1990, but it is much better than the 1998, and appears to have more body and richness than the 1995, also a top-notch vintage. The 1999 should have at least 20 years of life ahead of it."

Th. Blondel Premier Cru

A wonderful find - new to the UK market and exclusive to Smithfield Wine. This delightful Champagne is made from the traditional grape varieties of the great Champagnes - in this case two thirds Pinot Noir and one third Chardonnay. It is kept for a minimum of three years before release. It is a glorious pale straw colour with a multitude of fine, long lasting bubbles. There is a slight peachy aroma and its taste is an explosion of fruit and carefully balanced acidity. Dry without being sharp - this is a Champagne for all occasions.

Th. Blondel Rosé Brut Premier Cru

Also new to this country a glorious example of rosé Champagne. It is a pale pink with lots of fine bubbles. It has a subtle nose of raspberries and blackcurrants and has a rounded palate with well balanced acidity which makes it a perfect wine for all occasions - whether it is a celebration or just an evening of indulgence!
