Fra Guereau DO Montsant

Fra Guereau DO Montsant

Wine from the new DO Montsant. The name of Montsant derives from the most important mountain range of the region. The Sacred Mountain, known historically for its tradition as a home of hermits. The wine is called Fra Guerau in homage to the monk Guerau Miquel, a Cistercian monk, who arrived in the Montsant region over 800 years ago, supposedly in 1192, and who pioneered, along with the Carthusian monks, the planting and evelopment of vineyards in the region. On the mountain of Montsant itself, there is even a gorge known as Fraguerau. Crafted from a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Garnacha, Carinena, Tempranillo and Monastrell. The colour is intense, bright, cherry red, with a deep rim. The nose opens with touches of lightly toasty oak, and is followed by balsamic, red berry and plummy fruit, with hints of black pepper and a light mineral finish. The palate is full and rounded, with sweet tannins and ripe, rich fruits followed by the toasty smokey influence of the wood.
