D and D Douro DOC 2005

D and D Douro DOC 2005

This wine is the result of co-operation between wine makers in the Douro region of Portugal and the Ribera de Duero region of Spain - hence the name. D and D Douro DOC 2005 is a limited edition production of only 25,000 bottles of this beautifully crafted wine. It is a blend of classic Portuguese grapes - Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and Tinta Roriz varieties, which were fermented in new French oak barrels and aged for 14 months in both French and American oak. It has a dark black cherry colour. The nose is intense and complex, as you would expect from a wine of this quality, with a blend of liquorice, oak and black berry fruits with hints of dark chocolate. Surprisingly there is also a hint of aromatics from orange blossom and bergamot. On the palate it is powerful, rich and full-bodied with the oak and berry fruits from the nose following through. It has well balanced tannins, which indicate it will improve over time - although it is drinking well now. It has great length and is definitely worth the money for anyone who likes a full bodied oak-aged red wine. 14 % Vol
