Austrian wines are one of the best kept secrets of the wine world. They produce wines which range from the dry and sharp to the sweet and racy. Lower Austria is where most of the Austrian wines signature white grape variety, Grüner Veltliner, is grown. This produces a wonderful crisp yet fragrant dry white wine that is just starting to be seen outside of Austria. Burgenland is where most of the red wines are produced, including the Austrian specialist variety, Zweigelt. It produces a soft and fruity red wine with a light hint of cinnamon spice.
